- Walking Sticks
and Canes

My walking sticks are fairly new for me. Here are a few. I have really enjoyed making them and using them. They really help on steep trails and when climbing over logs and other obstacles.

They’re a result of my daily hikes in the woods, fields and along the creeks of Rock Cut State Park and before that in Shabbona Lake State Park.

They’re made from a variety of wood from a variety of sources. Some I trimmed myself from trees in my yard. Others were given to me by friends who know I’ll put them to good use. Some branches I’ve purchased from E-bay or at flea markets.

I’ve used hickory, Sumac, Osage Orange, Walnut, Sassafras, and Maple to name a few. Sometimes I remove the bark and sometimes not.

When joints are necessary I drill out the pieces and insert steel rods with epoxy, then file, plane, and sand to make everything fit.

They’re finished with four or five coats of spar varnish and a rubber tip. Size can usually be adjusted.

This page contains just a few of my sticks. They range in price from $45.00 $80.00 at the present. Email me if you want to know more or to see what’s available

Thanks so much for your interest.
